VW Beetles aren’t designed to be amphibious, but if by some stroke of luck you end up with your original Volkswagen Beetle in a body of water, there’s a very good chance you’ll float for a while. The Beetle is a unibody car with well sealed doors and few openings. As long as the floor pan isn’t rusted through, the Beetle can float. Some ads in the 60s and 70s boasted that the Beetle will float for a whopping 42 minutes.
Note: Volkswagen did make a Schwimmwagen, designed as an amphibious four wheel drive off road vehicle.
